Office of Annual Giving Private support of alumni is crucial to schools at the University of Maryland. Money raised through the schools' Annual Fund programs supports the educational experiences of thousands of students. For many students, financial aid makes an education possible. Gifts directly help students each year by making available these scholarships, by providing innovative teaching and research programs, and by providing for the pace-setting technology that is vital in education today. Alumni support is on the rise at the University of Maryland. In the last three years, the amount and percentage of alumni giving has raised the level of expectations for UM schools. The dollars contributed through alumni annual giving programs dramatically enhances the educational experience offered by our nationally ranked programs. The Annual Giving Office supports the schools' efforts to increase alumni support and annual giving. The office serves as a resource to the schools to coordinate fund-raising activities and as a resource to alumni about any aspect of their giving. The office's mission is to ensure that all alumni are invited to participate in their alma mater's Annual Fund. Much of this is accomplished by alumni phonathons at the University of Maryland Calling Center. The Calling Center employs students and alumni volunteers who contact thousands of alumni each year, providing opportunities to communicate with our alumni regarding their alma mater and for alumni to participate in the Annual Fund. The Annual Giving staff also coordinates traditional mail efforts to keep alumni abreast of school-related news and alumni information.
